Why We Use Zinctech and Geomet Coating on Our Components

Not all protective coatings serve the same purpose. At Treadway, we select surface treatments based on how each component will be used. That’s why, aside from galvanisation, you’ll also see Zinctech and Geomet coating on some of our products - each offering benefits suited to specific applications.

Zinctech Coating

Zinctech is a zinc-based corrosion-resistant coating that provides solid protection while allowing easier processing and fabrication.

Key Benefits:

- Corrosion Resistance: Offers a reliable barrier against rust and oxidation, making it suitable for trailer parts exposed to road spray and moisture.

- Better Machinability: Unlike some heavy galvanised coatings, Zinctech maintains good workability. Components can be cut, drilled, or welded with less difficulty, which is valuable in both manufacturing and repair settings.

- Clean Finish: Provides an even, smooth appearance, which can be advantageous for parts that need to fit accurately in assemblies.

Best Applied To:
General trailer and suspension components where corrosion resistance is required, but flexibility or post-coating fabrication or modification may still be necessary.

Geomet Coating

Geomet is a water-based, thin-film zinc-aluminium anti-corrosion coating processed at low temperatures.

Key Benefits:

- Corrosion Resistance: Offers excellent performance in salt-spray tests, making it highly effective for parts exposed to wet and coastal conditions.

- Low Risk of Embrittlement: Since Geomet is applied without high-heat treatment, it preserves the integrity of high-strength steels. This makes it especially suited for critical load-bearing parts.

- Thin, Even Coverage: Provides protection without altering tolerances. This ensures precision fits in assemblies such as brake components or spring kits.

- Environmentally Safer: Free of hexavalent chromium, Geomet is a more environmentally responsible coating compared to older processes.

Best Applied To:
High-strength or tolerance-critical parts where structural integrity and dimensional accuracy must be maintained.

Choosing the Right Coating

The reason we use both Zinctech and Geomet is simple: different applications call for different protection methods.

By applying Zinctech and Geomet coatings where they work best, we’re able to extend the life of our components, reduce maintenance, and protect material integrity. It’s not about using one solution everywhere—it’s about making sure each product gets the right protection for the job it’s built to do.
